Drama Therapy Services

*According to the North American Association for Drama Therapy, “drama therapy is the intentional use of drama and/or theater processes to achieve therapeutic goals.”

"Drama Therapy is an active, experiential approach to facilitating change. Through storytelling, projective play, purposeful improvisation, and performance, participants are invited to rehearse desired behaviors, practice being in relationship, expand and find flexibility between life roles, and perform the change they wish to be and see in the world."

Individual Drama Therapy
  • Adults
  • Children
  • For Adults :

Sometimes talk therapy isn't enough.  Creative processes like drama therapy can help you delve deeper faster to work toward greater self expression, understanding, and making positive changes in your life.  In the first few sessions your therapist will work with you to gather enough information about your history and goals to begin treatment.  Then in subsequent sessions you can expect to be engaged in improvisational dramatic processes based on your needs.  Change and progress happen through the process of expanding your perspective and developing a close relationship with your therapist.  Having the opportunity to play will also leave you feeling less stressed,  a greater sense of freedom, more grounded, and more in touch with yourself.  If you're ready to try something different then drama therapy might be right for you.

  • For Kids:

When your child is struggling to navigate life's complex twists turns and relationships your heart is breaking and you don't know where to turn.  Many traditional mental health approaches may not be effective for your child; children learn and grow through play.  In individual drama therapy sessions, your child will engage in dramatic play to increase his/her ability to flexibly respond to life's challenges.  Drama therapy provides a place where your child can access his/her imagination, express feelings and experiment with new responses.  This can improve mood, flexibility to changing circumstances, lower stress, increase creativity and improve social skills.

Mindful Play
a group for adults

Do you ever feel uninspired or disconnected from other people?

Do you remember the feelings of freedom, excitement, and spontaneity when you played with your friends when you were a child?

Does your spirit long to play?  Adults need to play too!  That’s what we are going to do.  Care to join us?

The practice of playing brings you into the present moment  and into engaged relationships. This can provide many benefits including greater awareness and expression of your feelings, fun and meaningful connections with other people, and less worrying about the future and dwelling on the past.  Be prepared to move and engage in dramatic play (movement/sound/role-play) with other adults. We will also engage in some yoga and meditation practices. No experience in acting, yoga, or meditation required. It is only necessary that you have the innate human capacity to play and think you would enjoy doing so again.

Come meet us in the present moment!  See you in the playspace….

We will meet monthly on a Thursday evening at 5:30-6:30 at Tahoe Rising Yoga and Meditation Center, South Lake Tahoe.
